Now that the days are shorter and the air is cool, we are blessed with the return of a favorite special treat. In the late afternoons in front of our local grocery store, an old world vendor roasts chestnuts. The vendor, Sakshi, moved here many years ago from the Swiss village of Laufen. I cannot think of anything nicer than this wholesome, warm snack on a cold, damp autumn day.
Yummmm...

Oh, chesnuts! I have a love affair with chesnuts! They remind me of when I lived in Italy and we would buy them at this time of year in front of the Duomo in Milan!! If only I could find some as good around here and roast them « on an open fire »! I can smell them from your photos!
Your banner looks gorgeous!
I love that you are able to purchase warm chestnuts! This is a tradition my Italian grandfather held each Thanksgiving/Christmas. He would carefully score each one and gently place them in a pan on his woodstove while all the children sat around and waited for this magic nut to be ready to eat. I tell you, I will never ever forget the warmth and the taste of chestnuts! : )
yummmm, indeed!
Sweet portraits !!! You give us joy ;)
We celebrate St. Martins every year too!
