knit happy girl

My almost-seven-year old daughter is truely knit happy lately! She amazed me yesterday when she sat and listened to stories on CD while Mia and I worked on our main lesson for the day. Vivienne knitted an entire scarf in a sitting. And the next day, she completed several shorter pieces and sewed them all together to make a lovely, well crafted piece. She also came up with an interesting texture by first finger knitting the yarn for a length, then knitting that, and continuing again to first finger knit, then knit for the duration of the skein. It gives it a very pebbled, snuggly texture. There is even scientific evidence that knitting can offer long term health benefits! Time for me to pick up my knitting needles, too.

And my little  gloves with the hole are continuing to become new things. Here is a little finger puppet.

Happy knitting!

aydin, too, has been "knit happy" here as well...he made ehren a scarf for christmas & is currently working on a potholder.

he has deemed himself 'my (mama's) knitting buddy', which i absolutely love! (especially since orin never took to knitting.)

however, not to be outdone, orin countered with. "well, i'm her sewing buddy."

hmmm...i could get used to this! :)

That's so excellent! I've tried several times to get my almost 9 year old daughter interested in knitting. She does crochet though, not as much as your little girl, but when she gets the urge it's fun to watch. :)

That's great! I love the knitted finger knitting! My daughter is crazy about knitting these days, too. She started a sock yesterday and is almost finished with it! Just a bit obsessive (kinda like her mom!).

Love it! I have a couple of knit-happy girls too.
I posted the other day about making recycled crayons & how Emma knitted an entire scarf while we waited for them to melt and cool.
Samual just asked the girls to show him how to knit the other day. My girls started knitting at age 5, I'm not sure my not-quite-four year old little guy is ready yet.
Here's my post about it:

I was sitting with my 9 year year old daughter yesterday as she was knitting away, we were having a nice conversation, she was casting on her stitches quick as can be. We are now surrounded by her little knitted creations!
