Late Summer in the Woods

This past week we have been enjoying treks in the woods. There is a new crisp feeling in the air, and the sun seems to have lost some of its strength. It is the perfect season for hiking. I have especially been noticing many different kinds of mushrooms showing up. I am looking forward to later this month when the kids and I will learn about mushroom foraging with Alan Muskat. I look forward to learning how to identify wild mushrooms, and feed my family with them, safely. For now, I am enjoying their beauty and the wild originality of these earthy characters. I love the smell of the fungi, pine needles and decomposing leaves on the forest floor. It is comforting to know that I have a natural space to go and breathe deeply.

What have you been enjoying in nature lately?

As always, such wonderful photos, how lovely to have those beautiful woods so nearby to go foraging for mushrooms, heavenly...

What interesting mushrooms! They look like Merigues that have been browned on the tip under the oven.
